Current Projection : 3,250 yards, 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. 300 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns.
Not the standard “breakout” season, but I do believe that Kenny Pickett will prove that he is consistent and can be the Pittsburgh Steelers franchise quarterback baring no injuries.
Things that will hinder Pickett’s growth:
- Matt Canada continues to call short yardage plays and doesn’t allow Kenny to show his accuracy and mid yardage throwing ability.
- Injury issues
- The Steelers continue to lean on running
- Pickett’s pressure to sack rate increases, he’s currently tied at 19 as of last year with 19.3
Things that will help Pickett’s growth:
- Poise in the pocket
- Addition of players : Left Guard Isaac Seumalo, Left Tackle Broderick Jones, Right Guard Nate Herbig and signing Wide Receiver Allen Robinson. Increasing depth on the line is a huge plus and should help Pickett to navigate a clean pocket.
- Matt Canada shifts away from the constant short yardage throwing plays and allow Pickett to move through his progression and have the short yardage plays be the final resort.
- Doesn’t shy away from standing in the pocket and using his legs to make a play. Scrambling yards should stay remain consistent this season.
- Pressure Passing Grade: Kenny Pickett was ranked at #3 with a pressure passing grade of 69.2.
- Needs to increase touchdown percentage this year. This should be an easy fix based on play calling.
- Remain clutch in key scenarios. Pickett became the first rookie qb to “throw a game-winning touchdown in the final minute of the fourth quarter in two straight games.” Which does show some great upside to lead the Steelers in close games.
